BIOGRAPHY

 

Kathleen D. Taylor has obtained three national certifications (Certificate of Interpretation, Certificate of Transliteration and NAD Level IV) in American Sign Language issued by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the National Association of the Deaf. She also earned a Bachelors of Arts in Biology (Pre-Med) from Hofstra University and a Masters of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling (specializing in Deafness) from New York University.

 

Ms. Taylor has been a professional sign language interpreter for over 12 years having had the privilege to interpret for several national and international personalities, respected authors, political, social, civic and religious leaders. She has also interpreted for over a dozen Broadway/regional theatrical performances and musical concerts.

 

As an American Sign Language interpreter Kathleen D. Taylor strongly advocates the belief the individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deaf-Blind have the right to fully participate in all arenas of their lives and society at large. Therefore, each assignment is considered a positive progress in integrating and supporting the idea that persons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind can successfully interact with the hearing community if linguistic barriers are effectively removed.

 

Kathleen D. Taylor has worked as in the field of Rehabilitation Counseling for over 15 years. She has experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (state and local), Vocational Evaluator, Director of basic academic/rehabilitation program for deaf adults and a Mental Health Practitioner specializing in domestic violence, people with strong visual dependency & children (deaf & hearing) in foster care.

 

Ms. Taylor is extremely active in organizations (national and local) which focus on supporting and further developing those who are interested in the discipline of interpreting; this includes serving as a Director-at-Large on organizational boards. She also is an active member of organizations (national and local) which focuses on the needs and concerns of the members of the Deaf Community.
